A band built from the pub circuit up

The Gafford Hamsters were formed in Hamilton in 1985, performing as a five-piece band across the local pub scene. After an 18-month run, the music paused — but the story didn’t end there.

In 2018, two original members reformed the group as The Gaffers, joined by former Echoes drummer Mike Stewart. What emerged is a tight, experienced power trio delivering a bigger sound than you’d expect from three players.

Today, The Gaffers bring classic rock favourites, modern covers, and original tracks to stages across New Zealand — always focused on one thing: a packed dance floor.

Gaffers 2 is the duo option from The Gaffers, featuring Grant Shaw and Denis Newby on guitar and bass.

Created to offer venues and event organisers a more compact live music solution, Gaffers 2 delivers the same great songs, musicianship, and entertainment value that audiences have come to expect from The Gaffers. Using premium backing tracks, the duo produces a full, polished sound while requiring less space and a smaller setup than the three-piece band.

The setlist features many of The Gaffers' most popular rock classics, along with additional songs that lend themselves perfectly to the duo format. Gaffers 2 is ideal for smaller venues, private functions, corporate events, and occasions where a full band setup may not be required.
